Favicon.ico: What's the best Converter ??

G'day Everybody,

Just asking......what's the best free and paid software to convert a jpg and/or gif to a ico file.

There's a freeware program called 'ToyCon' that supposed to convert lots of image formats to .ico, available here (DL link underneath the article, just above the comments)

I just checked and the DL link is to a French site (unintelligble, uless you can understand French ), an English DL link here

I can't comment on it, as I haven't tried it.....

Yeah I don't speak French either. Tho I did read through the comments posted at ToyCon site for the converter and numerous mentions about the messy links.

Also reports of the ToyCon software being infected. Tho one smart cookie commented

Yes the link given here is messy… especially when you can’t read french… I downloaded directly from Softpedia. They tested it as spyware and virus-free:

So I think I better bookmark that softpedia site. I keep forgetting about it.

Thanks for the link eneles........but the software doesn't suggest its compatible for Vista. Only XP or lower.

IconForge is a pretty "simple" program and shouldn't have any problems with Vista. I'll test it with Win 7 tonight.

**edit** Works OK with Windows 7. No compatibility mode needed.

Wow what a bump !!! Thanks for keeping an eye out on this thread. I also found out that photoshop has an plug-in that converts images in ico has well.
