Recovery Options
Startup repair
If Vista will not boot up this is the first option to try. Once selected it runs automatically and tries to fix problems such as missing or damaged system files which might prevent Vista from starting. This process can take a while and the computer might reboot a few times.
System Restore
Restore Vista to an earlier date.
Windows Complete PC Restore
Will restore a backup previously created using “Windows Complete PC Backup and Restore” which is part of Vista Business, Enterprise and Ultimate editions.
Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool
Checks the computer memory for errors.
Command Prompt
Opens a Command Prompt window.
How to access the Recovery Options
Configure your PC to boot from the DVD if it isn't already set up that way. You may need to enter the BIOS to configure the PC to boot from the DVD.
Set the boot order to
Floppy (if present)
CD/DVDROM
Hard Disk
SAVE and EXIT
Reboot your PC with the Vista DVD in the drive. When you see the "Press any key to boot from DVD..." prompt, do so.

Loading files might take some time.

The installation will load

Select language, time and keyboard
Click “Next”

Screen4
Click “Repair Your Computer”. Do NOT click the "Install Now" button.

Highlight the operating system you wish to repair
Click "Next"

Screen6
Click the appropriate tool and then simply follow the onscreen prompts.
