Some security software is difficult to fully remove from your system. If remnants are left behind after uninstalling it can cause problems.
Often when a new security software installation fails it is because it is conflicting with remnants of a previously used product that has not been fully removed.
Remnants of old security software can cause problems by conflicting with your current security and can also slow your system down.
It's just the same as running 2 real time antivirus programmes. Which you should never do.
Often simply uninstalling using add/remove programs is not enough. Usually this will either not uninstall or it will remove the main parts of the product but leave remnants behind.
Most security companies have removal tools to help cure this.
